Mixed Age
Our mixed age Family classes include children infant to age 5. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers-grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Experience new songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. Both children and adults participate in the circle, led by a teacher with early childhood and musical skills. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.
(new) 4-5-6 year olds and siblings
This class is geared to the interests and social nature of children ages 4, 5 and 6. Sometimes the older children prefer to have a class of their own. Because older children have a greater degree of understanding, more musical games, folk dances, jam sessions, dramtic play and more structured work in rhythm and tonality will be included. Families still play an important role in this class, although the adults and children may have different musical roles. Younger siblings are invited to join this class at half price because they will learn by watching their older brothers or sisters as well as the parents.
